If you are buying online, ask your retailer what version it is.This is a great little toaster/oven. It toasted my bread evenly and perfectly, they didn't even come out "too hot to touch" like some toasters do. I don't have any experience with the original model.this model looks more sleek than the square one pictured here. The little oven door opens effortlessly, no sticking or dropping the tray and there is a nice BIG "cancel button" on the toast dial that pops up your bread if you want it out earlier.
All the reviews and low scores I have seen on here are from issues that have been fixed with the newer model. It really deserves a chance and considering most cheap 2-slot toasters are about $6 and most cheap toaster ovens are in the high 20s to low 30s I would say for $37, all-in-one this is a STEAL. If you see it at the stores make sure the box says "Toastation II" on it, mine even had a sticker that said "new and improved".so I guess it's brand new. I recently went to Target and bought the two slice Toastation II, it is an improved model, mine came in brushed chrome and black on the sides.
No fishing around for anything, no slip-throughs, no flying across the room. Try it. I brought it home and tested it and there were no issues at all. I was able to fit two 2in thick bagels in the oven.
It's easy for the elderly (and non-technical people) to use, it's compact and doesn't use much counter space. She loves it. I highly recommend it for the price. This is a nice, inexpensive, easy-to-use appliance. I bought this for my 83 year old mom who doesn't do much cooking anymore and has a hard time stooping to use her oven.
I much rather have a toaster oven that actually works for more than a year than get a crappily made one that I can throw in a landfill so that it can be replaced with another crappily made one. It is quite ridiculous.To their credit, customer service said we could get a free replacement toaster if we cut off the end of the plug and sent it in as proof. But that seemed like a waste of a perfectly good mini-oven, so I never did it. At first it was wonderful. Now I'm going to give away ours to some poor college student who needs a mini-oven and get us a new, real toaster oven. Our toast could get browned from below but not above. Sure, maybe it toasted unevenly, but my husband and I had never had a toaster oven, so it still was like magic.But we did always find it annoying that when you open the oven door and the tray slides out, it often slides out past the hooks so you have to re-hook the tray upon closing the door and potentially burn your fingers.What really irked us is that right after the warranty expired, the burner that lights up when you toast stopped working. So for the past 2 years we have been toasting using the oven feature and constantly burning our toast.
the whole family loves this replacement of our old toaster over -- the oven capacity is clearly limited but it's wonderful to have the combination toaster feature
Also, the tray that came with it does not fit inside, and the door doesn't close all the way when you use it. You have to either have some external timer to use, or stand right there and watch it, as it goes from edible to burnt in a matter of seconds. What the hell.
The toasting bit goes down into the oven, so its just a little catch to hold up your toast. There is also no timer on this thing. This toaster was alright at first, just minor annoyances, but after about a year of use, I just can't stand it anymore.
NO TIMER. Talk about a waste of money. Almost everything I put in gets caught, which forces me to either a) unplug it and mutilate it with a fork until it comes out or b) violently jam the toaster button up and down until it comes loose.
Waffles are especially susceptible.
